Hi, I'm Joanna, the author of The Blond Travels. In the worlds of Thailand and Portugal, I feel like a fish in water - and it's no coincidence! I've been exploring Thailand for over a decade, and I've settled in Portugal for 6 years now. My mission is to support Dreamers - just like you - in discovering these fascinating countries and helping those in love with them find their own place on Earth, preferably for good! Let's uncover these unique corners of the world together.
Are you going to Nan in the north of Thailand? Great! Here’s how to get there from Chiang Mai.
Nan is located in the north, around 700km from Bangkok and 300 km from Chiang Mai. It is famous for its temples, peaceful living, good cuisine and the surrounding mountains.
If you’re going to Nan from Chiang Mai, check out how to get there easily and safely.
There are a couple of options. Here are the best ones.
From Chiang Mai to Nan by bus
You can get to Nan from Chiang Mai by bus. The trip takes 7 hours. The buses leave the Chiang Mai main bus station a few times per day. A ticket costs 200 Baht.
You can purchase your ticket straight at the station, or buy it online using 12GoAsia, which I highly recommend.
From Nan to Chiang Mai by plane
Nan has its own airport. It’s very small and it operates only a few flights per day. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Nan to Chiang Mai, but you can buy a ticket with a short stop in Bangkok. You’ll find tickets on AirAsia.
