Hi, I'm Joanna, the author of The Blond Travels. In the worlds of Thailand and Portugal, I feel like a fish in water - and it's no coincidence! I've been exploring Thailand for over a decade, and I've settled in Portugal for 6 years now. My mission is to support Dreamers - just like you - in discovering these fascinating countries and helping those in love with them find their own place on Earth, preferably for good! Let's uncover these unique corners of the world together.
Check how you can get to Koh Chang cheaply, easily and safely.
Koh Chang is an island located near Trat, in the east of Thailand. It’s a very popular destination because it’s easy to get there from Bangkok and Chiang Mai and the island is beautiful. Read on to find out how to reach Koh Chang.
You can get to Koh Chang in a few ways.
How to get to Koh Chang from Bangkok?
The easiest way to get to Koh Chang is from Bangkok. From the Ekamai bus station there are regular mini vans to Lean Ngop. From there you can catch a ferry. On the island passengers can change to a taxi, which will take them to their chosen hotel.
The second option is a flight with Bangkok Airways. From Suvanabhumi take a plane to Trat (just a warning – the planes are tiny and it’s a very bumpy ride). Then, you can catch a taxi to the ferry, or a transfer directly to the hotel (this includes a transfer to the ferry, a ferry ticket and then a transfer from the ferry to the hotel).
Some people to save money choose the first option. You will pay less if you buy a ticket to the ferry and then a ferry ride to the island. The driver will leave you by the ferry gate. On the other side you can catch a taxi.

Getting from Chiang Mai to Koh Chang is a bit more complicated. You first need to get to Bangkok. Luckily there are many connections to choose from.
I travelled to Koh Chang from Chiang Mai. In the morning I went to Bangkok. There I found a hotel for one night and the next day I went to the airport.
When I’m in Thailand I book hotels a few days in advance on Booking.com. In this case I recommend hotels, which are close to Airport Link. If you take it in the morning, you will save money and avoid traffic.
